The Torquay Community Enterprise (TCE) handed out its first round of grant funding for the year at a function held at the Torquay Bowls club this evening..
Over $15,000 was handed out to 15 different community groups to support a variety of grassroot projects. The enterprise also announced a one-year sponsorship of a training room at the Spring Creek Community House, valued at $1,200.
The latest round of funding brings its total contribution to the community in the last three and a half years to over $65,000.
The TCE was created by the Benigo Bank and is one of a number of similar enterprises, linked to Bendigo Bank branches, in towns around Victoria. It is run by a board of volunteer directors who all live locally. Its major sponsors are health provider GMHBA and the Surf Coast Times.
The funds are generated when new or existing Bendigo Bank customers link their accounts to the TCE at no cost to themselves. This can be done at the branch in Gilbert Street or by contacting Bendigo Bank branch manager Robert Harris on 5261 7313 or by email at robert.harris@bendigobank.com.au
Funds are also generated each time a new customer signs up with the VicWest Community Telco for telephone or Internet services.
The TCE is one of the major sponsors of the High Tide Festival and the annual Froth and Bubble Festival.
